Joseph Calamusa, May 14 post

The study abroad has only been going for two days and it already is a blast! When we first got here I wasn’t sure what to expect. Being in a foreign place and staying by myself was a little nerve racking but exciting at the same time. I got picked up at the airport by the nephew of the house mother I was to stay with and we quickly became friends these last two days and I have had a good time going out with him and his friends after a great day at the agency I was placed at (which I will go into more detail in a bit). Overall I’m getting more comfortable here as the days go by. They have a dog here at the house called Chuck Norris, which is awesome. During the day, I am currently working on a reservation where we have done things such as measuring snapping turtles, to even building a nursery where they will grow 4000 plants or more inside of it. I’m excited to see how much work we will get done on it. Other things we have done have been going into the forest to learn about the biological diversity in it. We have seen things from poison tree frogs all the way to parrots, which was a beautiful sight to see.  Most importantly I got to see a sloth, which was the best part of the trip so far. It was a great time working there and we got eat some really good food while doing it. It’s only been two days and I have done so much stuff. I can’t wait to see what comes next! Hopefully more sloths.
